That’s the one! He built it for Fretboard Journal as part of a pair of OMs he built. The other was a Koa back OM. He said the Black Locust back guitar didn’t sell and just kept it for himself. The Fretboard documented both builds, I’ll find the link.

I inquired about it and he sent me sound samples. We had a bit of back and forth and I got very comfortable. I got it and it exceeded my expectations.

I have to say pics do not do it justice, it’s a much prettier guitar in person vs pics. It even smells great!

Sam

Very nice, congrats.

You might want to try LDC mics, set back a bit more for a more mellow recording tone. Just my experience anyway.

Hi Sam,

That's awesome, nice story Drew is a great guy to work with. I want to say I listened to a Podcast at one point that was from the fretboard journal with it? would have to go back and find it. Glad you are super pleased with it, I had one of his OM's actually #5 I believe if you look on his site which was equally incredible. I have a clip of it on YouTube. Yeah, you are not kidding this thing gives our whole living room a great smell! fresh cedar and brazilian I suppose =)

Hi Barry,

Thanks for the suggestion, I am going to experiment with it more I have a original Rode NT1 that is a great sounding mic to give a try soon.

Careful with mics though, it's another rabbit hole
