You can take a piece of paper, lay it on your neck and mark the width. Don't measure the nut itself. Measure the neck width at the top of the neck, just right under the nut. Then take your paper to the grocery store or office supply store and measure it with one of the rulers they sell there. No need to buy a ruler.

No, the number is on the neck block, under the sticker. You will need to remove the neck block sticker to see the number.

Yes... as I said, the earlier Taylor dreadnoughts had the narrower neck width. My 1998 415 jumbo had a 1 11/16 neck too. But they use the 1 3/4 size now. I think they changed it to the 1 3/4 inch when they went to the NT neck in 2000 (+-)? They guys at the Taylor forum can tell you for sure.
By the way.... which one seems more comfortable to your hands? ... just curious.
