The obvious answer is a Band of Guitars.

There's a fine line between a collection and an accumulation.

An Excess of Guitars might be appropriate, in some cases.

I've wandered through the list and have narrowed my 3 favorites as follows:

A Glory of Guitars

A Harmony of Guitars

A Medley of Guitars

Once we get it down to one favorite, my nephew will then know what to call what he has and will probably donate a guitar to the winning author. Just suggesting.

I like "a band of guitars" and "a string of guitars.

In any event, I am out of this thread. I've given it what I have and it may not be worth the weaving.

Not quite out of here, one last question: How many guitars would be required for a band/string/cartel/whatever of guitars?

Two would only be a pair. Maybe 3-5 could identified as a small collection by going to the romance languages and adding an "ito" or "ita"--for example, a bandito of guitars. Numbers beyond 5 could get the solid classification.

Now I'm done, my duty as I saw it.

Probably not a lot of “thrashers” on here, but I like the way “a thrash of guitars” sounds. Btw, An Exaltation of Larks by James Lipton is loads of fun on the subject.

And so, JHey! suggested a look at Exaltation of Larks--a definitive book of names for collections of just about everything. Thanks JHey, I gave the book to my wife for our 53 anniversary and it's a perfect gift for a word-master of her quality.

There is nothing in the book about a collection of guitars, but there is a definition of a collection of guitar players--a fret of players. That works pretty good for this forum since so many people fret over delivery. We are a fretting bunch.

The fret designation leads to two possible names for a group/herd/ bunch/ collection/gaggle of guitars. Band and String come to mind as logical choices. I like String better since band already has a designated musical reference.

A String of guitars works on a number of levels. For example, if the collection is small, 2-5, it could diminished by romance notations of ito and ita. Steel string small collections could be called Stringitos and small collections of nylon string guitars could be called Stringitas.

Using such nomenclature, Kramster has a String of guitars. Captain Jim has a Stringito of instruments, and I have a Stringita.

My duty as I saw it.
