Default Saw Tommy Emmanuel Last Night

Went to see Tommy Emmanuel last night in Birmingham. He was amazing, as you can imagine. A couple of observations:

- His Matons sounded stunning, all of them, with very little processing.
- His energy level at 67 years of age is astounding.
- He has a joy in his playing each tune that makes it hard to believe he's playing it for the umpteenth time.
- He "preached" (not in a bad way) about living life to the fullest.
- He is not a very good singer, which proves he is mortal.

He acknowledged several longtime fans and friends in the audience, one of whom was seeing him for over the 400th time. All in all it was the perfect evening for those who play or appreciate great guitar playing.

I'm pretty sure the man is not from this planet

Glad you got to see him before the mother ship returns to take him home

I need to do that..

My wife gave me front row seats in a 2500 person venue back in 2020 for our anniversary. It was amazing...and i agree with your assessments 100%. Tommy is a magnificent musician and the joy emulates from him and his guitars! If you haven't seen him live I cannot recommend it enough...the man has a gift and that gift is himself!

Just seeing a photo of him evokes, " I bet he's killin' it again".

My wife and I went to see TE and Mike Dawes in Salem OR in Dec. What a show. I'm of a comparable age to TE and can't imagine keeping up his energy level night after night. He clearly enjoys performing. The Maton that was his main player that night was only 4 months old, yet it was approaching Trigger condition. He gets every ounce out of his guitars.

Hi Ruppster!

I'm glad you got to see Tommy! He does seem like he's from another planet!

I have not seen TE play for a while, though I have probably seen him in at least a dozen shows of the past. My wife and I spent a couple of hours with him in the Sycracuse airport back in 2008. It was other worldly!

Glad that you had this chance! I've seen him 4 times and always look for more when he's in our area. Master player, performer, entertainer, and person all wrapped up in one! And yes, seeing him live is....other worldly.....far far beyond what folks might expect if they haven't seen him in concert.

I had the chance a few years ago and balked at the ticket price. I should have gone.

I've not seen the Welsh Tornado for years - he's from a town 3 miles away from me but the last time was when he opened for Arlo Guthrie about ten years ago, would you believe? Two great players together - the traditional mini-set at the end must have been fun.

he was fantastic and a very nice guy, the end set was great! I was a huge Tommy Emmanuel fan but I also became a fan of Gareth that night as well.
