Default BR/LS 000 build thread.

This 000 with a Brazilian body, a Lucky Strike top will gave the full comfort package, ( the PABLO) with arm and rib bevels, funger relief in the cutaway, a Manzer wedge and foam frets.

Here is the back getting scraped to near smoothness.

And here is the back plate nearly smooth

Looks wonderful so far, John.

Looks a bit like a hippopotamus head in that second shot!

Foam frets do sound quite comfy. Was this fan fret?

That is going to be an incredible guitar John!

I hope you are right Ryan.
I was kidding about the foam frets of course.
I don’t think it will be a fan fret but that could change.
There is a pile of lapis lazuli on my bench that must be incorporated into a rosette and position markers.

Fungar relief. Who knew?

Of course I approve of a Pablo Package. May their herds, and yours, increase…

Looks lovely John

Looks to be another special build. Will likely be similar to the Cocobrolo in my collection. Looking forward to the build.

Foam frets and funger relief. I knew Wade Lowe was sharing more secrets with you than with me! Can’t wait to see the results.

Yo’ bro

Yo’ bro
Well I am not sure Wade told me about foam frets and finger relief is just a spray on application that anyone can find at Walgreens.

ANYway, there are some local trees that just sound musical when you “harvest” them for firewood. I’m specifically thinking about the red cedar (juniper) which i have cut on occasion and remarked on how each log rang when being tossed onto the firewood stack. Another wood that i have discovered lately is Royal Polonia. It also rings when handled and it is the wood of choice for making the Japanese Koto. I’m repeating myself but Kostal made at least one guitar for Jimmy Carter using this wood for the back, sides, and top. I understand it was a very nice instrument.
I have some growing on my property and since it is both musical and light decided to make some lining out of it. (My trees were small)

It splits nicely

The split logs have been drying for about a year

So there is a lot of waste but here are some billets

The rim of the 000. The inner layer is Purple Heart and the lining is the Royal polonia. ( don’t take the spelling too seriously, I don’t )

I’m sure that will a beautiful instrument, John, especially looking forward to what you’re crafting for the rosette!

I appreciate it Kevin. The Purple Heart turned out nicer than i thought it would. It should add interest for those who peer through soundports.

I'm guessing this guitar will be known as the "Hippo" build/guitar from this point on, and that the value of this guitar has just gone through the roof.

I love the idea to use the Royal Ponia (sp????) for linings! What a great idea to make use of local resources! And the purple heart linings are slick!

Thank you Treenewt. It is a kind of adventure to harvest your own wood.

Here is a pic of a koto mentioned above that is made of Polonia
