To me, guitars are functional art. Beautiful to look at, inspiring to hear, a joy to fondle and play (mostly), and they smell sexy.
I have never bit into one so I can't speak to that sense. What is something like that worth? More often than not, I shake my head.
Up and down.

there are players who are entitled to spend whatever they want on a guitar. I'm not that good. I have a real nice Taylor that I got in trade for a nice PRS, and I'm a little sheepish about having spent around two grand on those guitars. But in the current market, prices are a lot richer. Fortunately, I have a Home CEO who sets my limit for me, so there's not too much anguishing over it on my part.

My limit before I start laughing is $4,000.00 but inflation is on the move!

….I don’t shake my head at guitar prices…I buy what I can afford and leave it at that…if I felt like I could afford to spend more I would….and I would never question what amount someone else spends on a guitar….it’s no concern of mine…

I paid $2700 for my HD-35 and that’s about it for me price wise. My current daily driver used for gigs cost about $700.

Before or after I found this forum?

Lol

I feel like about $3k is the most I would spend nowadays, in theory. But I’m pretty happy with what I have and I’m looking more to sell off some unused stuff at this point. And nothing I own has touched that $3k yet, though one got close.

That number is defined only by what I have to spend at any given point. If I had 50 million dollars, paying the price required for a 1935 D-28 would be no problem.

For many people 10k is to them what $500 is to me. Lots of people out there make far more money than I do. If I had a ridiculously high income I probably wouldn't bat an eye at spending $10K+. It's all relative.

I have yet to pay $2K but it's inevitable.
