Default Pickup suggestions for classical.

What would be a good pickup to install in a classical guitar with traditional fan bracing?

I really like the Schatten HFN in my classical guitar. Had a K&K before that and never really could bond with it, too boomy, hard to controll.

I also have a Schatten HFN in my nylon string guitar, a Cordoba C10 crossover. I’ve been very happy with the sound. These are sound board transducer pick ups, they adhere to the underside of the soundboard.

The Barbera Soloist pickup enjoys excellent excellent reputation for nylon string guitars.

Another option would be James May’s newest Ultratonic.

Check the new brand LARS Pickups. www.larspickups.es

This pickups are no-invase and probably the best sound for classical and flamenco. Also in acoustic guitar work fantastic. You can hear it in his youtube channel:

Interesting post as last week I was looking for an inexpensive amplification method for I’m playing at an open mic tomorrow one of my allocated three songs with my classical guitar. I didn’t find any inexpensive non intrusive pickup. However at home, I tried a dynamic mic pointed out where the fretboard meets body above the sound hole. I got very reasonable results running it thru my Bose S1 Pro. I plan to get to the open mic early tomorrow to try it out on the open mic sound system. If it doesn’t work, I’ll just play my 3 songs with my steel string guitar.

I just installed a KNA NG-1 pickup I picked up on Amazon for $60. Installation was a breeze.

I wanted something inexpensive, noninvasive and easily removed. I wasn't keen on having holes drilled or pickups being installed with putty.

To test it, I plugged it into my Stage DI-2 preamp which is plugged into a Bose S1 Pro. I haven't tried any other pickups on my classical guitar so I don't have anything to compare it to, but my personal opinion was it sounded fine, and didn't change the sound of the unamplified guitar. No feedback either. I'm going try it a live setting Oct 1 at an open mic.

I really like my cheap ClingOn pickup gives a nice natural sound-no mod needed and since it just uses a little mag disc inside git ( i made a 2nd one) I can move it from one classical git to another without needing a sep pickup, and the silicone base pad is very finish friendly. was less than $100 when i bought it.

Looks like the Clingon would also fit my requirements.I don’t see any side to side comparisons online. I think the one advantage is that you can move the mounting spot to get different possible outputs thereby customizing to your preference. The KNA Ng1 is you get what you get although I’m happy with what I hear.
