Default My final colonoscopy....

The weather is beautiful today in Charlottesville, I'm going to the beach tomorrow for three days, I had my final colonoscopy today and scored a perfect 9 on the BBPS. Life just doesn't get any better. Oh yeh, they gave me propofol. YIPPEE....

These days most people have gotten the message about the importance of colorectal cancer screening: After we turn 50, nearly everyone ought to undergo a colonoscopy every 10 years. But say you're 79 and in good health with no family history of colon disease; do you really need another colonoscopy if you got one at 70? Probably not.

Yeah, but that does not mean you can't drink the occasional gallon of Golytely if you want to.

Congrats. That's great news. I think I am due for my next colonoscopy. Thanks for the reminder.

Besides drinking 1/2 (32 oz.) of the "prep solution" at 11 last night and having to awaken at 4 am to drink the other half, the "prep" instructions have extended to five days before the procedure and are more than a little confusing. So, yeh, I'm real ok with this being the final one, whatever that might mean....

Why not the 'poop' test? So much easier. No disgusting drink. No internal...

Default Good luck and be well

As little as I enjoy them, I wouldn't want to think that I'd had my final colonoscopy. That would suggest that my results were really bad! But it's not about me, and I'm guessing you've had surgery to clean up a problem. Hope it it doesn't come back.

Congratulations! Had mine last year, and I can totally relate.

So how often are you guys having this procedure done? My last colonoscopy was about 7 years ago. I hate drinking the prep.

I had four benign polyps removed during my '12 colonoscopy which obviously couldn't have been done with a "poop test" and the results of this one were "clean" (no polyps) so not having to do another colonoscopy is actually an indication of good, not bad results. Note that being free of this procedure is in the absence of family history and any negative issues in ten years...

Not nearly as diagnostic and obviously polyps can't be removed.

Because of polyps and family history, I’m on the five year plan...
