To each their own, but the relicing thing doesn’t appeal to me at all. From ‘76 until ‘02 I owned a ‘58 Strat that had a lot of natural wear, but 95% wasn’t by me, but by those players before me...which was ok because at least it was put there honestly.

I love the sound of a great guitar. But I would prefer that by me playing it, brought it to that condition.

Level 4 has worn frets, a lifting bridge, belly bulge, split top, loose braces and needs a neck reset from new.

Well, if the price is right........
If you get it at a steep discount then it might be worth putting some money in it, in order to bring it back to level three. Then it could be your beater

I'm still struggling with the concept of "reliced" acoustics.

If I were to buy a used guitar with genuine signs of usage ... Ok, but not abusage.

I wouldn't want a guitar that was played, or made to look played - the way I don't play.

Every review I've ever read by anyone who has ever played one says they are fantastic, and the playability and tone are incredible.

They also have quite a waiting list for new ones from what I hear.

It can sound like it was descended from heaven, but there's no way I am gonna spend my money on an artificially beat-up guitar.

So, who strums like that? And with what, a screwdriver?

When I buy a new guitar, I want it to look like a new guitar and in 30 years, mine looks like that, I'd be ashamed of myself!

No, I would not buy that guitar no matter how good it sounded.

There is a reason the Music Emporium, Carter Vintage, etc. are “excited” to be carrying these North Carolina crafted, hand made guitars.....

They are the real deal. Heavy distressing is optional. Personally, I think the guitar pictured is beautiful and I don’t expect it will last long.

I like playing a guitar that has a history to be appreciated. Marks here and there are just part of the deal and they are, should, be honest. Playing marks even more so. However I occasionally cringe at some blemish imposed which comes from neglect. Or even stupidity. To add those insults to a guitar and then ask for money to apply "artistic" history is stupid in my opinion.

What's next? Buy a new car and you pay a little extra for some door dings artistically placed based on whether it's a mall parking abuse or maybe some from your own garage? While we are at it why not chip the windshield?

Sorry...old man.

I have always felt that way about electric and now acoustic guitars. 'Poser' is the exact word that comes to mind.

Apologies to anyone who takes umbrage at my opinion.

Definitely not something I’d be interested in. Outside of my 64’ D-21 that I inherited and is pretty beat up looking, my other guitars are very well taken care of.

This is a flawed analogy. More appropriate ones would be:

Pre-washed/faded jeans.

Cracked leather boots. Or any aged leather goods. Belts, saddles, whatever.

Hair color. Really any make-up, scents, or other artificial (fake) beauty products.

Shabby chic furniture. Or any factory aged/distressed home decor.

Anti-aging products.

Martin, Eastman, Fender, etc. reliced offerings.

Vintaged tuners.

I’m assuming you think all of these types of things are “stupid” as well?

Apparently that will void the warranty.
