Default redeye, taylor es2, and k&k question

play a taylor 714 ce with es2 pickup through a redeye twin into an aer 60/3. also play a martin 0m28 through the same system equipped with a k&k mini.

the taylor needs the gain all the way up on the redeye, while the k&k equipped martin has the gain adjusted just the opposite, at about 1/4 to achieve the same results in volume. why is this? i thought the active pickup in the taylor would be hotter but this is not the case.

i use both guitars at the same time playing through both channels in the redeye. i have another guitar player playing with me sometimes with this set up.

is there an adjustment in the es2 pickup?

thanks for any info, Bobby

The K&K is known as a ‘hot’ pickup, even though it’s passive. I have them in both Martins, one of the Lowdens, and the mando, and PA guys frequently comment on the hot signal they’re getting from my instrument(s).

This is one solution for the K&K. I have one I use with my HFNs.

If I'm not mistaken, the Taylor ES2 puts out a balanced signal through a TRS jack. If you are using a standard guitar cable, you would only be getting half of the signal which could explain the difference. I don't think that the RedEye's input jack is TRS, as it was really designed for passive pickups.

What you’re experiencing is very normal. K&Ks are very hot. Don’t be fooled by the word passive.
