Got to love what wood the big boys use for their jigs.

Yeah, That’s a Purpleheart board. It’s when you start resawing that miscellaneous woods start showing up everywhere.

Default Quilted Maple with finish

The finish is on this quilted Josie small jumbo model:

Here is a close up of the Cocobolo bevel in the cut away:

Here is the Cocobolo bound headstock with abalone purfling and various woods in a wave pattern:

The wave pattern is carried to the back of the neck as well:

You might say the wave motif is carried across the entire guitar:

Thanks for viewing!

Eye popping gorgeous all the way around! There are so many waves I’m afraid after staring it may take some time to get my land legs back. Awesome work Mark. A masterpiece.

People sometimes like to name their guitars. I’m thinking Hurricane Josie
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for sharing this EYE CANDY

I am sure the new owner will be thrilled with the bevels and port, too! No way to go back for me, so be forewarned! Haha

Thanks Paul, it is hard to retrofit bevels on a guitar. They certainly do add some comfort.

Thanks for commenting

Smile Retrofit bevels and ports...

Hey Mark

I meant go back to no bevels, as John Kinnaird has put them on my customs, at my repeated requests.

Boy, if someone could figure out how to retrofit bevels and ports and make them really nice they would have a LOT of customers, I wager.

This guitar is staggeringly beautiful!

Way to go !!!

Paul

Default pretty instruments

Mark, I cannot think of another builder who exhibits a better sense of aesthetics than you do. One after another - just beautiful. And it's not all due to outstanding photography either; they are just as nice in person as the viewer could hope.

For those who may be reading who have not played one of your creations. I have played several and can attest that what one's ears hear and what one's hands feel is comparable to the aesthetics of how it looks like on the screen here.

Thanks Paul, Soundports aren’t always too difficult to retrofit. In fact, I really didn’t like sound ports initially. I would call them “PEO”s (plectrum extraction orifice). I had someone offer to buy a spec Josie small jumbo on the condition that I retrofitted a sound port. So I reluctantly did and was very surprised with the result on that guitar. I stopped calling them PEOs and had to eat crow for other builders who I’d been complaining to about soundports!

Thank you for the endorsement! I only wish I could find 10 more sets of that bacon figured Padauk we used on your guitar! I do really appreciate your comments here! Mark

Thank you Jamiejoon, not bad looking wood for a mostly domestic guitar, right? I was able to get three guitars from the billet this Maple came from. One of them went to Germany so I suppose it might be considered exotic wood there.

I’ve made a commitment to build with mostly domestic and finding it a lot easier to do than I initially thought!

Thanks for commenting!
