Default Overdubs before coffee

No, really, I started an overdub session on a song for a soundtrack today before I even got coffee. I was sitting in the control room with a guitar, staring befuddled at the monitors and thinking, boy, I don't feel very perky! Duh!!!

After I downed a mug and fired up the lava lamp all was right with the world once again. Coffee is the lubricant of the studio, after all. Today I'm overdubing fairly mundane electric rhythm parts to spice up this song. There's chunka-chunka chording and a little bit of arpeggiated and wobbled chords, both through light overdrive, just enough to wake up the song a tad. I used the Tele and Carvin TL-60T for the parts - the Tele regular chording and the Carvin with its Wilkinson trem for parts that needed to be wobbled a wee bit.

I'll spend the day finishing up the mix and this afternoon I'll be playing it back for the executive producer.

HERE is a rough mix minus. My guitar parts are the crunchy ones. This is another one of those songs that was sent to me to "fix." I rearranged some drum parts and added some transitional and structural guitar elements as well as chugga-chugga on the choruses and some fills.

Sounds like a very good corporate theme. I can hear the voiceover in my head. If a script exists, why not send it to me to demo over the bed?

About your coffee: the data is in on that.

Thank you for your kind words! It's funny how your perspective changes once you've been exposed to the library music world, isn't it? As I sit here I am working on my first cup of joe again. Thanks for the study results! Very comforting!

The song is actually a vocal piece that will feature in an hour-long production. This morning I'm exporting and delivering the -24 LUFS video master, CD pre-master, and corresponding MP3s for the client. Nothing is simple anymore...

I hate my new MacBook. In a millisecond it will dump a forum response due to something I inadvertently touch. There appears to be no way to turn off whatever is allowing it to happen.

"removed masked profanity?????" cool.

Ty -- dunno how new your MacBook is, but a lot of them have this issue because the battery is situated directly under the trackpad. When the battery gets old, it tends to swell up and interfere with the track pad, possibly even damaging it.

Thanks Brent.

No, this is a new, new one and I did get to Apple Support this morning. We found some places to dial back the sensitivity. Basically de-click all the track pad click buttons and slide to FIRM.

Things are somewhat better now. It was like the machine was haunted....and not in a good way.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting. About 2:10 it sounds like you dropped out which was good a production call to keep it interesting. Without your part it would definitely need some help.
