Got an email from Roswell. No experience with their stuff, though I looked at some of the mic-parts kits closely at one time.

Izotope has some "Early Black Friday" deals up. I'm guessing that means there will be either more or different deals up at some point closer to the end of the month.

I listened to a couple of of the products and I could hear a very pleasant effects on both of them. Enough of a difference that makes me consider this product. It seems as thousands of plug ins are available on today's Market. New ones being introduced every day. Each of the new products claiming to offer something that others do not. An over simplified, verging on ridiculous Question= What is the best way to judge which companies to purchase? Reviews? It would be super cool if there was some kind of lead sheet that compared all the compressor plug ins. Unfortunately I am always thinking in the " What is best Category". |

The best I can suggest is to do what research is possible. If a plugin has a free trial option, grab it, try it, determine if it's worth investing money into it. If no free trial is available, watch what YouTube reviews are available. If buying hardware, check the return policy. I'd also suggest searching for the company name in various forums and seeing what other have to say about them. No doubt all of that will yield varying results but it should be enough a person to make a decision. Where the purchase becomes a little more dicey is on the used market where returns aren't always well received or even possible in some cases. For example, sometime earlier this year, I sold my Pro Tools vanilla license because a Pro Tools Ultimate license came with my Carbon interface and I had no need of two licenses. I listed it in a bunch of places and someone said they wanted to buy it. He paid me, I did the paperwork Avid requires for the license transfer, and a couple of days later it went through. The night before the successful transfer email arrived from Avid, the buyer realized he was buying the vanilla license and not the Ultimate license. He emailed me asking if I could cancel the sale. I didn't know if I could at that point and told him I'd inquire. Before I could call Avid the next day, the transfer was finalized by Avid and I told him there was nothing I could really do now because Avid won't let him transfer the license back to me for 90 days. We agreed the best solution would be for him to sell the license when the 90 day lock period expired. Something I didn't mention when I started the thread was that I've imposed a rule on myself this year. I'm only listing products from companies and/or products with which I have had positive experiences or whose reputation and products are known to me as being solid. I did this because of my bad experience with JZ microphones last year. I want to minimize any chance that I point someone in a bad direction. I'd have felt terrible if someone here had the experience I had with JZ based upon me listing their sale on the BF list. I'm not imposing that rule on anyone else (I'd have no way to police it even if I wanted to), but that's what I'm doing this year and going forward.

Of course, if you had a bad experience and don't *want* to post a "PSA" for a sale, BF or otherwise, that's completely understandable. But, if there's a sense that we only post ones we've had experience with, well, that's has a way of informing even more of a bias in gear discussions, IMHO.
I do think it's valuable to mention if you've had any experience with the builder/e-tailer/company, and maybe some time-frame, as these things have shifted quite a bit over the past couple of years. (Anymore, I do really try to limit comments about a specific piece of gear to things I own or have owned in the past. I am not perfect, however )

I'm not asking, nor do I expect, anyone else to limit their additions to this thread. I also don't expect I'd be blamed for a bad experience simply because I posted sale information. The condition I placed upon myself is more about my own comfort level.

Kazrog has their sale up and running. I love their True Iron plugin. It's become a staple in my mastering chain.

Thanks for the tip on this one, Jim. I heard good things about True Iron, will give it a try. Forty bucks is pretty reasonable. I got the SSL Fusion Transformer Plug for thirty-five, another good deal.

With True Iron, the effect is very subtle but I find it moves the needle in the direction of "better."

Not exactly "Black Friday" deals but in the category of super good deals, the SSL Six channel strip and G Comp bus compressor are both on sale through the end of the year at ridiculous discounts versus what they have been selling for. I just looked and see that discounts have more recently been added to their other 500 series modules such as the Ultraviolet and 611 EQs. So if anyone is looking for SSL 500 series hardware, now is the time.
I don't really need anything, but these prices are tempting.

Native Instruments has launched their "Cyber Season" sale. I've bought a fair amount of sampled instruments from them over the years. Vintage Organs is a particular favorite of mine.

Realitone makes some very cool and not so common virtual instruments. I own a couple, including Realibanjo. They sound very good and they're a lot of fun to play with.

SSL Fusion plugins are 82% off right now. They all appear to be $35.
