I have a Traveler that hangs on wall beside my bed, looks like a small paddle.
Johnny Winter played a Steinberger for a while. |

I used to have a Steinberger GM with the TransTrem and EMG pu's. It was the one with a regular body.
Sold it right before the prices on these went through the roof... Currently have the Spirit import version. Unless you need a travel size electric and like to look for special double ball end strings, they don't do much for me. If you need a lightweight electric guitar they might do the trick though. |

Wasn’t Johnny Winter’s headless guitar an Erlewine Lazer? He may have played a Steinberger as well, but he used the Erlewine for quite a while.

I think if you play a headless guitar you're obligated to play a lot of 80s music
They've never looked right to me, but they sure make a lot of sense outside of how they look, in all seriousness. I'm pretty sure the Dire Straits guys - MK and Jack Sonni played Steinbergers on the Brothers in Arms tour for a few songs, or maybe just Money for Nothing. I was pretty young when I went to see them. Amazing show, BTW.

My son is a working guitarist and has a beautiful Strandberg he does most of his writing and experimenting on. In the prog world, loads of people play them and his is a 7 string fanned fret. The only reason he doesn’t use it for his paying gigs is because he’s usually in some crowded and sketchy bar and is afraid it’ll get stolen or damaged. He’s got a MIM strat for the bars. If he plays a real concert venue, then the headless comes out.
He loves it. It only weighs about 4.5 lbs and given the hours he plays, that light weight and its ergonomic design makes a huge difference. He could go on and on about the advantages, but that’s about all I know.

I have a Strandberg Boden Original 6 just like the one in the photo, and it’s by far my favorite electric guitar. The fan fret (25 1/2”/25”) ergonomic EndurNeck is a dream to play, and the Suhr pickups through my Princeton reverb amp sound fantastic. The shape looks weird, but the body is so comfortable. The hardware, fit and finish, and attention to detail are excellent.

I've had a couple of Steinbergers over the years. Outstanding tuning stability. Great sound. But mine were heavy, which is why they didn't stay with me.
I loved the tuning with the right hand though...very easy and accurate. Nick |

I've never owned one but I would like to just because it's something different to add to the collection.
