DIY Diffusion
This might be helpful for some people. As a general rule, small rooms don't benefit from diffusion. The benefits of adding more absorption to a small room almost always outweigh any benefit one might get from diffusion because diffusion needs space to disperse frequencies and small rooms are ...well, small.
Scatterface panels (or binary amplitude diffusors) in front of absorption panels is something I think I noticed showing up about 6-7 years back on the various room treatment sellers' sites. They work differently than the cityscape type and can bring some life back into a small room that is dead (which is typically not the case in home studios because room treatment is too often ignored). So if you ever get to the point where you have so many absorption panels in your room that the room sounds quite dead, this might be a better solution than dumping panels.
