What Are Some Short Scale Acoustics?
Besides Gibson, what else is out there for short scale guitars? Primarily full size. I don’t really know many other than Gibson. Up until about 2013, Godin’s brands dreads mostly all had short scale (24.75 ish), then they switched to long scale after many years, to my disappointment. Simon & Patrick, Norman websites are very outdated and still say short scale but they’re not. There is one full size seagull that still has a short scale. I’m excited foot my folk guitar that’s on order, Fort it has short scale and that’s what I played 99% of the time for about 15 years until I sold some guitars and bought my LL16 a couple years so, but I still have an awkward tone with the full scale.
Besides most Gibsons, are there any other short scale guitars out there? Does Martin make any? |

Martin 00 and 000 sizes are usually shorter scale than their dreadnought models.

The shortest guitar scale I've played was on my former GS Mini; but it's a Mini, so I think it wouldn't count.

Most Taylor Grand Concerts are short scale guitars. Some, especially older ones, may be closer to a standard scale. My 412e-R, spruce over rosewood, is a short scale and I love it.

My Martin 00-21 and my 000-42 both have Martin’s shorter 24.9” scale. Gibson J-45’s, J-35’s, J-15’s and J-185’s all have Gibson’s shorter 24.75” scale. If I remember correctly, Larrivee parlor guitars have a 24” scale. And I’m fairly certain that Elderly Instruments’ Gibson-inspired Farida guitars have the Gibson short scale, as well.
Hope this helps. Wade Hampton Miller |

I think you can special-order many Collings models in short scale. I have a short-scale C-10, for example. Their 0 and 00 models are all short scale, also.

Just a a warning, Martin 000-15 is not short scale even thought it is a 000, the standard series 000 are short scale. Most Alvarez parlor and 00 are short scale as well.

Short scale + “full size” + Martin? For me, the first guitars that come to mind are the 000-18 and 000-28. Icon guitars (and their variants.)

Try something older...
If you're sorry Seagull switched from short scale (and I am too), don't despair. They sold a lot of the old style, and some are always coming up for resale. Recently I bought an S&P Pro Folk that had lingered in a shop until the price fell to $350. It's a 2002, and was their top model at the time, with spruce over rosewood B&S. Would I have been better off spending that money on a new Seagull? I don't think so.

If you like your LL16, the FG3/FG5 from Yamaha are 25" scale.
