Makes a great companion to Pollack - if only because he has an appendix which works as a beginner guide to music theory, to let you in on all the jargon. Otherwise his approach is usefully opposite to Pollack. Pollack starts from the songs (and goes through every one). Pedler starts from the theory principles (all the ones you might need) and then shows a few Beatles songs that illustrate each one.
