You can do a ton with 4 chords
I tell folks all the time that you can do a whole lot with 3 or 4 chords and switching up your strumming patterns and dynamics. Here is a quick video with just 4 common chords.

Thanks Mr. Beaumont. That is hilarious!
And sorry for typo, the title of this post is supposed to be "a ton" |

That is a good starting point ! You'll need a capo, And learn the chord progression in different tonalities : at least : C, G, Am, F G, D, Em, C D, A, Bm, G With these you avoid using a capo past 4th fret. and maybe A, E, F#m, D E, B, C#m, A Since they are "open strings" friendly. |

On John Prine's old live album, some heckler shouts out, "You only know three chords!"
John says, "They sound good to me." |

Who needs four chords? Just have a catchy melody.

I wonder how much Aretha enjoyed actually singing along to a recording of Mariah's voice, while standing right next to her?

I have a lot of fun with I IV V progressions and some pentatonic runs thrown in. I usually always sound the same if I improvise on the same day, lol, but my dog doesn't complain.
