Default The silk and steal strings with the square feel.

So recently I bought a pair of silk and steel strings from labella expecting the ~square feel~ (idk how else to describe it)on the unwound strings underneath my fingernails from when I use to play my parlor (I primarily play spanish guitar and archtops) but alas it wasn't there. The only way I could describe it is it felt un-round and almost a similar nail grip to nylon.(not flatwounds I dont think).

So when I use to play my parlor, I forgot whether I had used D'addario or Martin silk and steel strings and was wondering if anybody knows what I am referring to and/or could lead me to which brand it was with that feel? Also was wondering if anybody knows how or what made them feel that way (via material, ect) I would like to run into other sets of strings with that feel possibly in combination with chrome/flatwounds.

I haven't ever heard of unwound strings as being anything other than round in cross-section, so the feel referred to can't really be square. Which leaves gauge (cross-section diameter) and tension as causing the unfamiliar feeling. And if you're used to playing nylon strings, the unwound steels are going to have a very different feel because of those differences in gauge and tension. A thinner string with higher tension is going to feel "sharper" on the fingers, and there's no getting around that with steel treble strings.
