Decoding serial numbers on Blackbird guitars?
Anyone have the secret key ring? I'd like to be able to determine the build dates. Specifically Blackbird Riders, but I imagine they would use the same scheme for all their lines. For example, what does 29030710NE mean?
I've tried Blackbird, but they are not responding to email at the moment. |

My only Blackbird guitar, a Lucky 13 that was built in 2016, had "2016" as part of the serial number. I cannot decode yours. Perhaps they used a different system back when the Rider was in production? You'll probably have to wait until Joe can respond. He is busy rebuilding a burned factory, as you know. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Perhaps if I got enough serial numbers with known build dates, it could be reverse engineered. The ones I've found so far don't have an explicit year. For example 4850611NE and 7550512NE. The N clearly means Nylon (and S Steel), perhaps the E is a Rider? or Electric? Possibly the last 2 digits are year, maybe the two before that is month? And the first three the serial number? That seems to fit the data so far. I misstated the one in the OP, it is 2930710NE. So your steel one was built a month later and is 18 guitars (311 - 293) later? And in that scheme the later serial numbers also have later build dates?
Anyone else have a serial number and a build date to contribute? |

I think the E means Electric, i.e., with pickups. And I'm pretty sure the last four digits are month and year. And the ones before that are serial number, later ones have 4 digits there, earlier only 3.
I'm learning this by buying them . I noticed one for sale at Elderly but it isn't there anymore.... |
