Original - "John Bell Hood Is On the Run"
I wrote this for an album I recorded in 2011 called Upper Level Low. The song was influenced by two things: Shelby Foote’s fantastic historical trilogy about the Civil War, and an attempt to write my version of “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.”
I play all the instruments, including a regular six string that was commandeered for dobro duty. The song is not a lament, nor a subversive paean to the South. I tried, like Robertson with “Dixie,” to make an honest statement about the life of a soldier. |

Can you boost the vocal volume a bit? This is a good song. Nice idea. All the instruments? I can barely play the guitar.

Thanks, Dan. That vocal track is a bit buried in the mix. I'll give it a tweak.

Really enjoyed that... lovely tight arrangement and a good build towards the end...I agree with Dan that the vocal might deserve more prominence but overall a distinctive and memorable performance.

Excellent! I agree to tweak the vox but major props on some major talent!
