Default Playing one song for funeral mass: Fishman Loudbox or S1 Pro?

My brother in-law passed away on July 4th. (We're heart broken, he was an awesome guy) The funeral mass is tomorrow. My sister has enrolled me to do one song for the mass.

Pretty sizable church, cathedral ceilings, the lots of air to fill.

I am trying to travel light here, kind of wondering which way to go

Fishman Loudbox, up off the floor a bit

Or one of my S1 pro's on a pole.

I've tried out both in my studio room.

The Loudbox to my ears, is a bit more what I want my guitar to sound like, using my J200.

The S1 on the pole is ok, and I have to think will probably offer a better way to get the sound spread about the building.

I have considered using both, and DI out the Loudbox to the S1, but it's ONE song. Really trying not to over think this.

What do you guys think would work the best if you were in this situation?

The only thing from there is not turning into a puddle mid-way through this piece. Done these before, but this one hits pretty close to home.

Hi rmp
My suggest - acoustic with nothing electric hooked to it.

Funerals are generally quiet events in formal settings, and people are respectful and contemplative.

thanks Larry, I will say that thought crossed my mind. But I've played in this church hundreds of times, I was in the music ministry program for 6 years.

I'll need "Something", it's a huge building. The house system is woefully inadequate for this. Otherwise I'd just use that.

it doesn't need to be a lot, but it needs something..

Ray, first so sorry for your loss. I was going to say S1 for the spread of sound. But I really think you should go with what is sounding good to you ie the Fishman, just so can concentrate on your playing. You obviously know the church & it's acoustics. As an outsider, I would think the reverberation would carry the sound.
Again sorry for your loss.

thank you Joe, I am sort of leaning towards the loudbox, since for going right in, and not using a mixer, I get pretty good results with just a cable from the J200

The Bose S1s are fantastic if you have something in front of them, for me, they can be kind of sterile sounding going right in.

and you're right about the natural reverb, it's pretty much the "Cathedral" setting on any reverb effect

and Larry makes a good point about the moment itself, introspective, quiet. Not much is needed to get the point across.

but I'm still pondering options. Simpler the better and above all I want to not overthink any of this.

Ray, sorry for your loss. To your question: I've played both and agree with the S1 for better dispersion of sound. I use mine almost exclusively though I have a LB Artist as well.

Hey Ray. I have an S1 pro now, and it’s so versatile. However last year I had a a Loudbox Artist and I played and sang 3 songs at my best friends wedding to his 2nd wife. The Artist was perfect. I’d go Loudbox.

Either is fine. In this situation it’s neither the song that you’re singing nor the gear you’re using that’s important (apart from avoiding feedback, as always).

The important part is that it’s you and you’re representing all the folks there, everything else is a detail.

Because of it's wide dispersion, I would choose the S1 Pro.
It will give you all the sound you will need.

Take both. Get there early and try them out before the funeral. Sorry to hear about your loss.

I hope the service was successful and memorable. I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve played a lot of masses in my days and never needed amplification. The acoustics in most sanctuaries, especially for a funeral mass, and generally very good. Curious what you experienced.

Whatever allows you to relax and emote for the song.

And, won’t the S1 allow you to skip running an electrical cord?

I would say knock them dead, but I guess that’s not appropriate in the situation.

Cheers.

Thank you all for your kind words thoughts, and advice.

I went back and forth a bit with this, the S1 has it's advantages but for this setting I was more comfortable with the Loudbox.

I went earlier this am and it's setup, and ready to go.

I've run thru the piece for the final time, and it's going to be at this point what it is. Again, thank you all for your helpful replies.

I'll post an update later!

For an easy setup and coverage without too much volume I'd go with the S1 Pro. Don't bother with the pole, just sit it on the floor in the tilted back position. You'll be amazed at how much coverage you get that way.
