Default Emerald X20 Nut

Has anyone figured out the graphtec XL replacement nut part number? I have a string buzz on my B string, and it seems to be coming from the nut end of the string. I changed strings, and it appeared. So I changed the B string again, and it is still there. Adjusted truss rod...that wasn't it. So I decided to change nut. Anyone have a part number for the replacement nut?

The buzz wasn't there before the string change, correct? Did you put a different gauge of strings on your X20 from the original ones that came with the guitar?

Have been using Elixir 80/20 Bronze Nanoweb 12-56 (Light/Medium) - have changed strings every month to six weeks, last three years. First time for buzz.

That's weird. It could be the string is defective or not seated well with the bridge pin. Do you have another same-gauge B-string to replace the buzzing one with?

I changed the B string with another new B string, and the buzz diminished slightly, but still there.

So, time for the baking soda / super glue trick, fill in the offending slot, recut it. Much cheaper than a new nut.

This thread makes me feel like a piker - I go at least 3 months on a set of Elixirs, often longer if it is on a guitar that doesn't get played a lot.

Good luck figuring out the buzz. Before filling and cutting, I'd try some graphite (lead pencil) in the nut slot.

Thanks, Cap’n. I will try that in the a.m.

I checked my computer. There are notes about which Tusq saddle is used by Emerald (PS-9280-CO, 1/8" fully compensated) but nothing about which nut is used. This is probably a question for Kevin.

I also have installation / fitting guidelines for both nut and saddle, almost certainly downloaded as PDF's from the Graphtech site.

Decided to ask Emerald about part number for nut. Kevin replied that he was shipping one to me. Emerald does customer service better than any company I know.

Angie, when it gets here please post the part number if it shows. This is the kind of thing we should all have handy because we can usually buy Tusq parts locally, or order them from various sources. My X30 needed a new saddle because they set it up too low - major buzzing no matter how softly I played. I felt bad that just the postage to mail a new saddle was over $10 when I could go buy one for about that. I did appreciate Emerald sending me the replacement to fit myself, and that worked out great.

The nut from Emerald arrived today (thanks again to Kevin). It was not in a package, so I cannot report a part number. However, here are the measurements from my vernier caliper:

Length: 1.778 in
Width: .189 in
The height varies as it has a radius.
Middle height: .330 in
Ht at each end: .304 in

That does not surprise me. I'm sure they get them in bulk and Kevin just sent you a loose one from a parts bin. Thanks for the detailed reply.

That's right. When I was at Emerald, I had asked for a spare nut, and Kevin just reached into a box and gave me one.
