Default LR Baggs Session or Red Eye for K&K?

Hi Everyone,

I currently use a LR Baggs Session pedal as my pre-amp for my K&K equippd HD-28. I am not even sure if this pedal is considered as a true pre-amp. However it sounds decent, but I have been thinking about swapping it out for a Red Eye.

I've read so many things about the Red Eye here, but I haven't seen much about anyone using the LR Baggs Session pedal as a pre amp.

I do have to roll off the bass and add treble, but I find the LR baggs pedal to have a little hum to it, I do run everything through a passive DI to my mixer via XLR.

Just not sure if it is worth spending the money on a new pedal.

Thanks!

Rob

I have a Baggs Session DI. I love it for what it does. It gives a HPF, that is great for any acoustic guitar pickup, and it also have the Comp EQ and Saturation, that I love! BUT, I really feel like I NEED sweepable mid contol to consider a preamp a nice one.

If I were you, I would get myself an EQ pedal and keep the Session DI. OR, if you wanna have just one preamp, I would go with something with that sweepable mids and HPF.

I could recomend an Grace Design Alix (of Felix, if you wanna some dual source system, or use with a vocal mic, like I pretend to do in the future), the Baggs Para DI, Baggs Venue DI, or the ones from Sunnaudio, like the Stage DI 2 or the MS2 (once again, if you wanna work with some dual source pickup).

That's my 2 cents.

PS: I never used a Red Eye, so I can not talk about it, specifically.

I'd buy the new SunnAudio DI 2, or a used DI 1 from someone wanting the newest thing. I was a RedEye user for years. It's good too. Not sure it has the EQ a K&K needs.

+1 for Grace Design Felix.
The right impedance for K&K.
EQ very powerful for minimising piezo honk and notch filter can be useful.
2 channels for 2 instruments or a mic (vocal or instrument) and a boost if you want/need it.
Not cheap, but brilliant piece of kit!

+1 Having owned them all at one time, I find this new Sunnaudio DI2 to be the best for K&K that I have used. Very satisfied with mine.

Not directly related to your question but I love the Fishman Plantinum Pro with either of my K & K equipped instruments. I've used with with my mandolin and my CEO 7 to great effect.
