Default gr81dorn- got your sig model

Had to thank you for helping create this amazing guitar! Was up visiting family this weekend, went to Northern Lights Music to say hello (in person) to the Solomon family, buy a pick and check out the acoustic room.

Played a few guitars-all fantastic (including the other Iris they had on hand)-tried the Iris CH and kept coming back to it. The feel, nut width, resonance, and sound coming out of this little guy blew me away.

It came home with me as a gift to myself for celebrating 32 years of continuous sobriety.

First off, congrats on the sobriety, I'm about to hit 6 years and would consider myself very lucky to hit 32!

Second, congrats on what I'm sure is an excellent guitar! I've been wanting to try an Iris so badly based on all the positive press they get around here, and I'm sure the CH is a great little guitar. Let's see some pics!

A) Congrats - NGDs are always fun and worthy of celebration ;-)

B) I'm flattered that the CH won your heart. I love mine so much and it's just been so fun watching Iris guitars grow and the model bearing my name make its way around the world and into the hands of players near and far. I love that you walked in, had a chance to play it, compare it, and it spoke to you. Very cool.

C) I am jealous cuz the sunburst with binding editions are just the most gorgeous things ever and I GAS for one always, as the original CH is all hog and really no embellishments in that way (does have Brazilian rosewood, so theres' that).

D) Congrats on the sobriety milestone. Seriously, that's awesome and something that needs to be talked about more cuz there are ALWAYS people thinking that they can't get out of the grips of it they need to hear that it can be done so they know they can, too. It doesn't need stigma, it just needs to be OK to talk about. It's a great accomplishment. I am at almost 12 years myself. Best decision I've ever made.

Congratulations to you, too on 12 years! And yes, it does need to be talked about more. My family was pretty up front about this being a family disease that killed my grandfather. I attribute the openness in my family to my getting sober at 23. No cleaning up my messes, but they let me us know that if you couldn’t stop drinking, or had blackouts, etc. You probably inherited the genes.

The burst and ivoroid looks stunning. The photos don’t do it justice.

Maybe Adam and the crew will send you a burst with the binding for contributing to their line? Just sayin’…

You don’t know me, but I will do just that!

Anyone else reading this that has an Iris, feel free to chime in!

Congratulations on the new guitar. It is great to hear the continual praise for the Iris line. I can't attest to that yet as my DF is still being made, only 2 more months to wait.

Congratulations on the 32 years. Some days 24 hours can be an accomplishment.

Congrats on your new guitar! I look forward to seeing photos when you get it!

And yes, I view each day of sobriety as a gift that I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy, or survive.

Pardon the photos, not ideal. They don’t capture the beauty of the wood grain.

So what’s the name in the signature: is it “gr81dorn” or is it your actual name?

Just curious….

CH are my real initials and, thus, the name on the model I helped design.

gr81dorn has been my avatar/screenname on forums and stuff since the mid/late 90s and I just never changed it, haha. Bonus points if you can guess to two fictional characters that the name is inspired by...

My earlier post was my admission that I have no clue as to what your name is.

"32 years of continuous sobriety." far exceeds any NGD. That's amazing.

That said, enjoy your Iris CH! I just now found a previous AGF thread discussing the naming.
