One persons Heresy is anothers.....
Aural Pleasure! In this case, it's mine!
I recently picked up a pair of 1985 Klipsch Heresy speakers from my friend, John Monteleone. He'd been given them by a friend of ours who no longer wanted them as he was moving to Norway. He'd used them as his main PA speakers for many years, and it showed. I brought over a Sony STR-7045 receiver to test the drivers, because frankly, free or not, I didn't want to have to start chasing down the guts, crossovers, etc. I plugged in my iphone and played Van Halen's Hot For Teacher to give the woofer, squawker & tweeter a full workout. I almost blew myself out of the attic........ Anyways.......I bought some rift sawn white oak veneer, and I'll let a few pictures tell the tale. Almost one down, one to go...... Howard

Aw, shucks, thanks....it's just like putting vinyl liner on kitchen shelves ......expensive, self-stick-one-chance shelf liner.......

They were quite popular back in the day and horns should last forever.
Are you going do a cloth cover or leave them studio monitor style ?

Those Klipsch speakers can be driven by flea- powered amplifiers, and still produce astonishing spl’s
They’re a great catch, you can’t go wrong, even with stock Xovers, they sound terrific.

Nice job on the cabinet! If you like DIY projects check out the kits at dynakitparts.com. A vacuum tube amp would pair nicely with your Heresy speakers.
By the way Klipsch has excellent customer support. If you ever need parts Heresy give them a call. Last edited by Al Acuff; 04-08-2021 at 09:31 AM. |

If you glance at the Klipsch Fan Forum you'd think they can't make enough of them to this day! The last shot shows the white oak rift cut veneer applied with a couple of coat of Tru Oil. It looks a whole lot better than my photo depicts. They're going to be living room listening style:-) Howard

I'll be running them with either a Marantz 2240 or a Sony STR-7045. At the moment I'm using BXR-5a powered studio monitors with the Marantz given it's split amp-preamp back panel option. I tested the Heresy speakers with the Sony, and the 45 watts was way more than needed! Howard

Is that basically the same company as Dynaco from back in the 60's? Those finished kits, done well, command good money to this day. I'm not too fussy about tube or solid state, as long as the solid state is from the golden era: The early 1970's. I did own a vintage Scott 299 that was gorgeous, with the matching tuner and a Rek-O-Kut turntable, but I'm far more reasonable now:-) Regards, Howard

it's great that Kevin bought the rights and has made the kits available again. Dynakit.com is an excellent source of replacement parts like transformers and hard to find filter caps for repairing old Dynaco gear. I've owned and restored several old Dynaco tube amps and they all sounded great. The Stereo 70 kit is still one of the greatest bargains in tube hifi! Duh.....I just realized you were probably referring to the grill cloth, correct? I actually have the original grills, and with a little vacuuming and compressed air they cleaned up close to perfect. What I will be changing is the Velcro fastening system. I'm going to install flush super magnets into the baffle, and then attach steel washers to the back of the masonite grills with epoxy. Here's an early shot with the grill wedged in place to get an idea.... HE
