Default Piedmont Blues: North Carolina Style

Came across this a few nights ago and enjoyed it; maybe some of you will, too.

Norman, obliged for the link. Perfect Sunday morning journey, with a cup in hand, to a time of great musical riches. These folks and their music and stories are now immortals.

I loved it, Norman, thanks so much! Fans of this might enjoy Toby Walker’s self produced documentary on his YouTube channel. There’s also something out there about John Jackson and a bunch of his pals getting together. I can’t remember who did it but it should turn up with a search.

Hi David and Bob, glad you liked it! I thought that would hit somebody’s spot. I was initially a little put off by the interviewer’s way of addressing the artists (“Play this” or “Do that,” instead of, “Would you mind...?”), but the artists didn’t seem to care. Just to be clear, this video is the first I’d heard of him. When he opened the door for John Dee Holeman at that diner, I figured he must be all right. He has a nice, easy-going way of talking to the artists that seems to draw out their best, and he seems to know his stuff, too. One part that I like is when Mr. Holeman says, “..., Gary and all of them...” I’ve known a few old-timers who had direct contact with some of the greats from the past, and when that kind of thing came up in conversation it always stopped me in my tracks: (blinking) “Wait a minute, you actually knew him?
