Default NGD…Taylor 317

I’ve been on the hunt for a 300 series Taylor for a minute. I’ve shifted between electric and acoustic over the years. I’ve been in a “mostly” electric season for the last many years.

But, as of late I’ve been playing my acoustics a bit more. So, for the last few months I’ve been looking for a “decent” acoustic. Initially, I was looking for a late 90’s, early 2000’s model (having owned numerous Taylors over the years, I really liked that era.) but gave into my G.A.S. and went to “just see” what my local shop has.

My son works there and I’ve known the crew there for years. So, I had “free run” of the place. My daughter (who is an amazing vocalist, and darn good Uke player) was with me so she was my “room” judge. We had a blast!

I checked out quite a few different models. I definitely dug the “AD” series. Big tone! Not sure the model that I was playing (AD17) would cut through the mix? I wasn’t a big fan of the 214’s they had, as well as a few others. But, a particular 317 spoke to me!

Sitka/Sapele wood configuration. All solid…check. Ebony…check. Comfortable neck profile…of course, it’s a Taylor. Nice well balanced tone with noticeably more low end then expected. Old school “pink poodle” style case….check

Black guard…The jury’s still out…

Overall, it had everything I wanted/needed. A few minor tweaks regarding setup but, overall, I’m very impressed.

Happy Friday everyone!

Regards,
PT

Hey PT!

Congratulations on your new Taylor! It sounds like you had a lot of fun on your search! That's cool that you could involve your kids!

Ty Glen. It was loads of fun. Of course walking out with a new guitar makes it even better! Just wish I could get the pics to post. Apparently they're too large? I’m an apple guy but have no clue if there’s a way to “re-size” a pic. I’m sure it’s easier then I’m making it.

Very nice! I was contemplating the 317, but ultimately got the 314 instead. Congratulations on getting a cool guitar

Congratulations! I have never played a Taylor that I didn't appreciate. They do a fantastic job. I always have more fun when taking my kid to the shops as well. I am glad you had a great day. These are really special moments. Enjoy your instrument.

Best,

Mac

Congratulations. My 717 is a joy to play and one of the guitars I always grab first. Taylor Grand Pacifics are hard to beat.

It’s a goofy workaround, but you can email yourself your photos and MacOS mail will give you the option to send smaller than original file sizes, then download from your email account and proceed accordingly.

Fantastic! Thank you. That worked like a charm.

I’m thinking Ebony buttons will be a nice addition…?

Congrats on the new guitar. It looks great for sure. I think the 300 series Taylor line offers good value. All of the quality of the more expensive series, just without the bling. I've got a 322 (all hog Grand Concert) and it's a very fine guitar.
