Sorry to hear of your sisters passing Wade. She sounds like quite a character.

She and I were probably in the building together at Powell Hall a few times.

I’m sorry to hear that, RD. So you know exactly how I feel and what I’m going through, because you’re going through it yourself.

Like I wrote earlier in this thread, grief comes in unpredictable waves, and it won’t always present itself the same way each time.

My father and I were very close, and when he died in 2016 it completely tore me up. It’s not quite the same with my sister because of her horrible ten years of dealing with cancer. Because she suffered so much, it was kind of a relief for her to take her last bow and exit the stage.

But she fought it with all the determination she could summon, which I’m convinced that someone with a less steely sense of self-worth would have succumbed years ago.

In one of our last phone calls she told me that she wanted to stay alive long enough to vote in the Presidential Election. (I’ll let you guess how she voted. Hint: she was a traditionalist.) She lived long enough to vote, and got a few other weeks besides.

As should be clear by now, she had a very strong will, and with her civic duty accomplished, she made her exit.

Really Sorry Wade - sounds like she was a wonderful person on all accounts

Lost my brother suddenly 16 years ago, and I think of him every day.

Here's a tune - not sure if you are aware of it. It helped me heal when my
Brother and my Dad passed. Hope it does the same for you.

Hey Wade,
I had an Uncle Bryan who ultimately lived and worked in Columbia, SC who has passed away. My older brother is named for him.

I am genuinely sorry for your loss.

Some people are born into this world with a certain irrepressible spark that is impossible to miss when you look into their eyes, it is fixed and present from an early age, and rarely extinguished until the life force itself has succumbed. I see that spark in your sister's eyes. She may sometimes, maybe even oftentimes, have exhibited more of the devilish persuasion than angelic, but devoid of energy and passion she was not, and there's a lot to be said for that in this externally worshipped, conformity driven world.

I hope St Peter is ready for her. Things are about to get interesting.

it sounds like you lost more than just a sister here, Wade. God be with both of you; it's a hard time.

So sorry for your loss, Wade. I lost my dear sister, Kristina, at the tender age of 42 to cancer. Still miss her every day.
