Default AC/DC

Their new album “Power Up” released today. I haves thing for their style of rock.

I’ve enjoyed it so far. Very familiar tone, they don’t try to be anything different than themselves. While Malcolm is greatly missed, they brought back Brian Johnson and Phil Rudd for the album.

For any of you classic rock guys, it’s a fun listen.

I've listened to 3 tracks which were released in advance, and liked them all...especially "Realize". I plan to get the album soon. Brian Johnson sounds far younger than he actually is.

Thanks for the tip! The opening riff sounds very Malcolm. As a youth they were one of my all-time favorite bands, and still are with the old stuff. They lost me after "For Those About To Rock" for the most part, occasional awesome song like "Thunderstruck" aside.

Malcolm is one of my favorite guitarists of all time, and my favorite rhythm player ever. Losing him and EVH in such a short time is sad.

I gotta say though, watching some old videos on YouTube as a man in my 50's, what an odd group of little dudes. But they sure knew how to rock it. For me they were never the same after Bon Scott died. Probably the only rock star death that actually affected me, I remember to this day where I was and who I was with when I found out he died. Super bummed. But again, watching him perform live now, they're just an odd crew. Interesting.

Anyway, thanks again for the tip and the trip down memory lane.

I have all of AC/DC's CDs (and a couple cassettes) up to, but not including, Ballbreaker. I've been following the new release news for the past few months. It always shows up in my Google News feed. I'm going to give the new album a listen to if I can find it on a streaming service.

I'm going to have to play some AC/DC riffs on my red Gibson SG Standard through my Marshall . My current favorite AC/DC riff to play is Shake a Leg.

Reminds me of this lovely quote from Angus Young:

“I'm sick to death of people saying we've made 11 albums that sounds exactly the same. In fact, we've made 12 albums that sound exactly the same.”

I don't care if they release another album that sounds exactly the same - if it means the prospect of a tour they can release the same album every year for me.

That sounds fun Dru! I don’t yet have an SG, but if I ever got one it would be just to cut up the volume and crank out AC/ DC riffs. I guess I need the Marshall too.

Yeah they’re one group that I just want to hear their signature sound and nothing else. Brian Johnson has had some severe hearing issues, but I read that if things ever get back to normal, he feels his new hearing aid would allow him to tour with them. I’m imprEssex at his hard they can rock out at their ages.

Sometime back in the 1990s, I thumbed through a guitar magazine detailing the complicated processors that some BIG rock star guitarists use to get their signature sounds onstage and in the studio. We've all seen them at concerts - besides extensive pedal boards, they're those 3-4 foot tall vertical racks of components glowing with little colored power lights and meters. The schematic descriptions of some player's signal chains took up entire pages in the mag, and I understood maybe half of what I read.

Angus Young was the last on the list:
Gibson SG guitar, 20' cable, Marshall amplifier.

I remember their very early song 'It's A Long Way To The Top If You Want To Rock 'n Roll'.

We used to sing the chorus 'It's A Long Way To The Shop If You Want A Sausage Roll'.

+1. Angus has a beautiful tone and a simple signal chain. His tone is an SG (or SG clone) and a cranked Marshall.

Saw them open for Aerosmith in ('77?) at the Long Beach Arena.

Let's just say they kicked Aerosmitih big time!

Never owned an album, but to this day I still love that Angus tone!!

Not hard to do at that time. I saw Golden Earring blow them off the stage around that time.

I've heard a few cuts, and oh yes.. you know who it is from the first chord.

I don't mind that at all. They know who they are and they never stray from it.

IMHO, they are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing.

Long Live AC/DC
