Default Remembering Hal Ketchum

I’m surprised this hasn’t been mentioned yet. This past Monday night (11/23) Hal Ketchum passed away from complications due to dementia. He was only 67. Those who aren’t familiar with him, give a listen to his “Past the Point of Rescue” album from 1991 I believe. Can’t believe it was that long ago but it has been a favorite of mine to this day. I will continue to fondly listen to his music.

I'm not familiar with him but based on your post I checked out some of his tunes and really dig them. Dying at 67 from Alzheimer's? Brutal. RIP Hal.

OH, so sorry to hear this. I was a mild fan of his. But, one of his songs I play along with on the stereo frequently, "Small Town Saturday Night". Love that song and his great country voice. 67 and dementia is very very sad. I have had in-laws with dementia but all survive into their 90's. So sad, and living with dementia has to be so difficult for the patient and the family. Praying for his surviving family and friends.

My favorite Hal Ketchum song is "Sure Love" (a collaborative composition by Hal Ketchum and Gary Burr) --hit #3 US Billboard in January, 1993 (released in September,1992); probably he's best known for his first charting single--"Small Town Saturday Night" that went #2 US Billboard Country in 1991.

My gosh, Hal is one of my most favorite singers. Huge loss, and a sad conclusion given all his health issues.

His song, "Stay Forever" was my first-dance song at my wedding.

Default Hal Ketchum

Sorry to read that Hal Ketchum has passed. One of the great singer/ songwriters out of the “Texas” crowd, although he was not born there.

I saw him live in the mid 80’s.
What a showman!

There was a mediocre opening act .. a well financed pretty boy with a white hat and a great backup band, who used his guitar as a prop.

But then when Hal Ketchum walked out on stage, you knew instantly who the headliner was and why.
The guy just took charge!
No hype, no ego, just raw talent and authority.
And his guitar was part of the band, not a prop.
The man could play.

There was no question that Hal Ketchum belonged on that stage,
and the stage belonged to him.
One of the best.
