Default Installing Stew-Mac Hot Rod Low Profile Truss Rod...

... without spending $70 on the bespoke tool.

I was thinking I'd just clamp a piece of sacrificial wood to the end of the neck blank. Drill a hole with my drill press first, and then rout the channel.

Any thoughts. Or should I just buy a truss rod that doesn't need the special treatment?

Its not a case of special treatment, no matter what truss rod you use, unless a single action one, the head area will always need to be opened up more

Just route the slot, then come back with a larger router bit and open it up a bit more

I think what you suggested is a fine idea. When I used to use those rods I would simply chisel the area out.

That's what I do and have done for four decades. It works fine. No need to spend $70 on a single-purpose tool for that purpose.

Default A thought

I think that vendor makes a living selling left-handed screwdrivers. We may not benefit from buying them.

It does seem a bit like a solution in search of a problem.

I just chisel out the area by hand. No need for a special (expensive) tool.
