That OM looks very nice. Bet it’ll sound great.

Going to find out how the Martin-esque one sounds later today, most likely.
Nice of you to conjecturize, Juston. You are betting on the short odds side. |

I was just playing my Sexauer this weekend, it has been a while. Every time I pick it up I'm not only impressed by the tone but by the playability. None of my other guitars while all very nice IMO, have that same level of ease of play. The setup is absolutely butter. I couldn't tell anyone the reason why but it is. Obvious to me each time I pick it up...

I should hope so, it IS OMy.
It is a VERY traditional style build, and from the “right” materials. Probably I have made between 50 and 75 OM size guitars, at least half of which had pretty much the same tonal target. The target is a particular 1929 OM45 DeLuxe I once had around the shop for a few weeks. It is the best Martin OM I’ve seen by a fair shot. I like to think I’ve gotten very close to it several times. All IMO, of course. Thanks for the comment, Tom. This guitar would feel familiar to you, I am certain. It is not the same neck, however, as it is a more vintage V type of thing. It does play effortlessly, though. Last edited by Bruce Sexauer; 05-20-2019 at 10:13 PM. |

Today I joined the plates for a 000 in the traditional Martin Golden Era sense: A long scale 12 fretter. This is AmerRed over Koa.

That’s going to be a pretty one.

I have built more all Koa than Koa/Spruce, and that makes this interesting for me. Koa is one of the most visual appealing materials I know.

Beautiful woods. I kinda like some color in my tops, it makes for some character. I take it your using the 1929 OOO shape ?

You are correct. This is a "character" top, but not nearly the color of the recent OM28 "hOMage". This top has lengthwise rays in it I sometimes see in Red Spruce.

Yesterday I shipped the BRW OM hOMage to a land far far away . . . though still connected to this continent . . . to serve as an educational tool. It will be interesting to see how this goes, and perhaps one day I can be a bit more forthcoming about what I mean. Suffice to say it is breaking ground for me.
Today the Koa 000 is a closed box. |

I'll certainly be curious until that day comes! Koa looks prime!

I have bound the 000 in Ivoroid. I spent some time on the phone yesterday with my friend John Slobod whom I consider the living master of celluloid binding. My results are still not as clean as his, but do show improvement.
