Default Atkin The Forty Three

Hey all,

Just taken receipt of this beautiful Atkin J43 and thought I'd share a pic. I hope I've managed to include a picture correctly.

These guitars are incredible! So light, resonant with a lovely woody tone. It's the perfect strummer for me but finger picks beautifully too.

Any other Atkin J43 users here?

I don’t have one, but I played one at Coda a while back - fabulous! If I had room for another guitar in my rack, that would be the one.

Beautiful...congrats! I would have bought a "White/Rice" dread model in a flash if it had a 1 3/4" nut?

Haha! I note you have a Lowden F23. I'm in the process of trying to purchase an O23. They are fabulous guitars!

Thanks guys! It really sounds great, quite close to an original 50s J45. It's so light is a joy to play although, I'm more use to a 45mm but too. This is purely a stummer for me so it wasn't a deal breaker!

Yep, it’s my third Lowden. I started with an O-10 back around 1997, and traded it for an O-25 in 2002. Bought the F-23 in 2018 and sold the O-25 because I could no longer play it in comfort.

They are truly magnificent instruments!

I suspect we may know each other from a certain Facebook Group?

I'm tempted by that Atkin 43. I have an Essential 0 which is great. I recently played their version of an aged d28 which I nearly bought based on how it sounded and played...but the ageing was a bit OTT for me (rusty tuners - no thanks).

Congrats on that guitar - Enjoy!

Yes, the relic thing is a weird one. The aging is very light on this guitar but there is a bit of rust on the tuners. The rest is very subtle though so I'm not too bothered!! Many thanks!

Am very tempted to try one of these, largely due to seeing Brooks Williams play one.

Yeah he's a huge advocate. I've always loved j45s. I think Alister is doing one of the best copies. I've played the collings CJ 35 and whilst it was lovely, it only resembles a j45 in looks. I was really tempted by the Iris version but they're very expensive this side of the pond and I believe the finish is better on the Atkin (grain filled) and the Atkin logo is prettier.

As an owner of an Iris I don't think it sounds anything like a J45. It's way sharper sounding and despite it being a short scale slope it's a flatpicking machine.
