I immediately thought of Vince Gill when Brad Paisley was mentioned. Just like Brad, Vince is one of those talented guys that have such a great personality that they can host award shows or anything else.

Haven't seen anyone mention Jimmy Vaughn. That would be Stevie's older brother. He is super amazing and the story I heard from his brother in law, who is a friend of mine, is that Jimmy was so good growing up that Stevie had to work twice as hard to "beat him". You know the sibling rivalry thing. Anyway - Jimmy was Stevie's inspiration and if you haven't heard him play it's certainly worth the time to check him out.

I noted in my post that I knew I was spacing out several other players who would fit pretty comfortably into the list I posted. Jimmie would be one of those. I know Stevie tried to be like Jimmie growing up, but he went in a totally different direction. Jimmie was and is one of the most economical players I've ever heard or seen - Stevie was a pretty flamboyant player. I saw Jimmie play with the Fabulous Thunderbirds back in '80 or '81 and he turned my head around about what great guitar playing could be. He drove that band like Keith Richards drove the Stones in their best periods. His leads were minimal, tasteful, but his rhythms were so smooth and funky at the same time. Saw him a few other times. I liked Stevie well enough, but I LOVED Jimmie's playing. Still do, but like a lot of us, he doesn't swing like he used to...
