When will the Pac-Rim begin making CF knockoffs?
I keep expecting these to begin showing up in the marketplace, but I see and hear no such buzz.
Is the nitch too small? Anyone know? |

As to CF guitars that are both designed and made in Asia by Asians, I've no idea other than your suggestion that the market isn't there . . . . yet, including the need to compete against a growing number of builders from US and Europe (Is there one in Australia also?). There are items like CF camera tripods that are designed and made exclusively in Asia and are lovely quality, like Sirui. Good quality, and for sure better price than European made standards. |

I was wondering specifically about lower cost cheaper knockoffs.
Grade "B" or C stuff. |

My semi-educated *guess* is that they MIGHT be able to get the cost down from $2K to maybe around $1K with cheaper labor. Materials and expertise are still going to be expensive, and the carbon fiber lay-up process requires skilled technique and considerable time. Plus you can still buy five laminated wood Yamaha FG700's for that price and simply throw them away should major issues arise, so the potential number of buyers may be limited. Heck, the market already has plenty of $2500 wood guitars in it, but comparably priced CF guitars are but a drop in the proverbial bucket considering the total numbers sold.

I suspect that what Chitz means by "knockoffs" is guitars that are reverse-engineered from quality instruments and sold at considerably reduced price points.
I would further guess that by B and C grade instruments Chitz is referring to low grade knockoffs sold at ridiculously low prices--much like some of the instruments that can be found on eBay and elsewhere. I, too, have wondered when we'd be seeing b and c knockoffs of quality CF instruments. |

What is the total production of CF guitars? Could not be enough to be worth their effort. More profitable to continue after the wood market that is huge worldwide and where their advantages are maximized.

No, I do not find tittles offensive in any way, shape or form...although I prefer 'au naturel'.
