Default Nothing new under the sun....

All,

Started playing acoustic 5 years ago (I am 62 now, certainly not old but).......many influences, have a great teacher once a week on Saturday mornings. Perhaps an advanced beginner? Love fingerstyle that is where my head is at. I just prefer to play acoustic fingerstyle instrumentals. My own...I call it Mark music. We all probably grew up listening to Beatle music, Neil Young music, etc. I am sure you get my point. What I am struggling with is how to get the music out of me that is in me, its in my bones and wants to come out and I don't know how. I listen to guys like Keaggy, Young, etc I don't want to name all because I don't want to miss anyone, and with a sense of wonderment with what I hear I want to play a little like that. I understand I don't have 30/40 years left to play my guitar and my experience/exposure will probably be limited. This is my biggest lament to my teacher, time, I feel like I will run out of it. Health-wise I am fine I just was a late starter.

Anyway my teacher and I are going to work on Donovan's Tangerine Puppet (at my request) I really think that are many great fingerstyle players out there where I can learn some of their nuances and adapt to it for myself.
Sorry for the rambling on, anybody else feel like this? The question is what to do about it? I want to play music but is it possible I am running before walking? I am interested in other's thoughts. Thanks for reading.
Mark

That seems like a pretty good choice for a basic Travis type fingerstyle piece. Keep finding pieces you like that are somewhere within your pay grade and learn them well start to finish is my advice.
