A friend of mine had a 1961 Strat, back in the mid '70s. Unfortunately, it got stole while he was living in a dorm in college. Fortunately,, actually, as my friend did some pretty amazing things to that guitar while in his possession. Things that I can't, unfortunately, repeat here.

I sold a walnut Taylor solid body that had mini humbuckers. Great tone. I miss the sound of that guitar, but it wasn't a good fit for my hand. Wish it was, it was amazing.

As for one that was for sale, there was a Melancon that also had two mini-humbuckers. That's one I wish I bought.

I'm new to the electric world but I have one to add. About 20 some odd years ago when I got home from the military I bought a house. My parents wanted me to take in some of my older brothers stuff to make room in their house. He moved out of country and still lives overseas. He had an old guitar taking up space so I sold it for a few hundred bucks to an overexcited buyer. Little did I know that I sold him a late 60's Les Paul Custom. I had no idea, at the time I wasn't into guitars and had no interest. Wish I still had it.

That would be a great guitar to still have. The Les Paul was discontinued in 1961 due to poor sales and reintroduced in 1968. You must have had a '68 or '69 Custom.

In 1980 I bought a 1969 SG. Nicest sounding and playing guitar I've ever had. Traded it in 1985 for a POS Guild like the guy from Twisted Sister had. One of my biggest regrets.

JJ French of Twisted Sister has a collection of Les Pauls. Too bad you didn't get one of them instead of the Guild.

I've got too many electric guitars, but can never decide what to sell. So, for now, I don't have anything in category #1 "regret/sold."

Category #2, "Should have bought." I can think of one, a Guild Aristocrat I played briefly at Chicago Music Exchange about 15 years ago. I don't recall the exact price on it, but it wasn't stratospheric. I could have afforded it, even if it was more than I usually spend on a guitar, but "I've got too many electric guitars..."

My first good guitar was a Guild Starfire XII. Emerald green. Kinda beat, even 39 years ago, with finish checking, chips, dings, binding separation. But man, what a player. Back in the day, we needed the money. I got down to one guitar, and let this one go.

PRS 305 25th Anniversary. PRS only produced 305 copies that year. It was a beautiful blue and looked great, but over the years I found myself not playing it as much, so it was traded away. But it stayed in my head that I made a mistake and eventually I bought another 305. It is a not a 25th Anniversary but it is a beautiful burst and plays great.

I just missed a 1952 Les Paul goldtop that was at the 12ft fret in Ontario. But the funniest thing, when I went to buy that goldtop from them, I found another guitar that I had been trying to find a good example of, and it turned out to be one of the finest examples of the guitar I've ever seen. It's a 1975 Gibson L5s, with the exact finish and hardware that I wanted (there were 4 versions of them), and I had been looking for almost 5 years and just about gave up looking! And while most of these L5s guitars have a 3 piece top, and are heavy (solid maple), this one has a serious flame 2-piece top and is just over 9lbs. So all's well that ends well.

Sweet! I'm not familiar with the L5. Is it hollow/chambered? How would you compare the tone to a Les Paul?
