My new magic guitar
Well, I have had my new (to me) CEO-1R for about a week. I previously posted a NGD but no one was interested in it.
I was going to buy an M series but this guitar showed up at my local shop and I played it. I bought it and played a show the next night. The tone and volume are wonderful. It has scalloped braces and I guess that’s what I’m hearing. Is it possible that it has a slightly thinner top? This guitar is unusually responsive, at least compared to my D-28. I know a dread is not generally first choice for a fingerpicker but it works for me. I also use a jumbo, which worked out OK for Rev. Gary Davis. I’m usually plugged in.

I seen your original post and to be honest I had never heard of that model. I looked it up on reverb today and It looks like it would be a great sounding guitar. I'm assuming they don't make this model anymore. Glad your enjoying your new Martin.

Cool guitar! I had to look that one up, first time I've seen one. I hope you get many hours of joy out of it.

Sorry to have missed your NGD post. Looking at your signature list, it seems that the new magic guitar is significantly newer than most. So, congratulations on getting new magic into the collection.
I can't say that I've ever seen or heard a CEO-1r. No surprise if they only made a couple hundred. If you ever record something, let us know! (Or better yet, post it here?)

My D-28 is I think a 1993, and this one was made in 97 so it is my newest. It’s also my blingiest, as I prefer plainish guitars. It may have a thinner top, I will measure if and when I can find my micrometer.

The CEO models are all limited runs. Mine was made in 97 and a few were made in early. 98.

Man, if that thing is a 97 it should sound really good. I looked up this series on line and they actually still make a couple of guitars in this series. They make a 7 and an 8.2. To your comment about fingerpicking on a Dread. I have been playing for a few years and most of my guitars are Dreads and I have no problem playing any style I want to play. I don't have anything against a smaller body guitar but I have to admit when I pick up one of my guitars its usually one of my Dreads.

When I record, I have found that my Jumbo kind of overwhelms my condenser mic and I get best results with my OOO knockoff. I don’t like dropped D on my OOO as much, though. I like a dread or jumbo live. I was not aware of the M models until I did a songwriting workshop with Jorma and he was playing his signature M-30. It works and works well for him, but I don’t know if it would for me. He has a really heavy touch, and plays with a high action. I have a light touch and a low action, so my results would not be the same. I nearly bought an M-16 (online) but then this guitar became available. A tech who I know and trust had previously done the intonation, and it and the action were good for me, so that’s why it followed me home.
