Congrats, actaylor. That’s a fine addition to Gibson’s lineup. Play it in good health.

Congrats! I wasn't aware that there wasa a J-45 Studio but the thinner body would be easier on the shoulder.

I just watched a Gibson NAMM video yesterday and Gibson is coming out with a G-45, yes "G", and a G-45 Studio with satin top. Based on the J-45 but at a more entry level price. I believe it too has a thinner body. I wonder if it's a rebranding of your J-45 Studio.

Congrats on that beautiful guitar...hearing some good things about this J45 studio. Nice to see that walnut is becoming more prevalent in the guitar world.

From what I've read, most folks think the "G" series will have a laminated back and sides. The press release on the G series says "solid top and walnut back and sides." The lack of the word "solid" when referring to the walnut has led to the speculation about laminates. The G series will retail for $999, so that's probably a good bet. The Studio Series remains in Gibson's lineup.

All well and good, as long as they don't stop making the J-15.

I would hate to see them discontinue the J-15. It is a wonderful guitar and appears to be popular enough to keep. But I would think that the J-45 Studio and the J-15 compete to a certain extent.

Congratulations on your new Gibson . What’s great is all the Gibson Acoustics are still being made in Bozeman .

Default Short Scale

One of the secrets to the success of this guitar is its short scale. I just checked the specs on Taylor’s 317 (lowest priced GP) and they seemed to have missed this key spec as their guitar is long scale (not to mention $200 higher for Sapele). Advantage Gibson.

Andy Powers implies in the current Wood and Steel that the use of the standard Taylor scale on the x17 models was a deliberate decision.

These Gibsons Studios have piqued my interest, too. Does anyone know what the reduced body depth is? Can't find it on the Gibson website.

Default NGD Gibson J-45 Studio

Congratulations on a great looking guitar! Really Interesting model and a bit like Atkin’s thinline series he introduced 5 years ago without the high cost!

I love Gibson I just wish they would make more banner reissues, I love my J-45 and would love a banner reissue LG-2, L-00 etc to go with it. I need the wider string spacing and bigger neck but limited runs are hard to find and expensive. Oh well serves me write for being firmly in a niche market. At least I’m saving money...

I have no doubt it was a deliberate decision. Perhaps chosen only to avoid criticism of copying Gibson? For me, the short scale on Gibsons wins the day. Check the UTube reviews for body depth. I know I heard it somewhere but my memory’s not that good. I want to say 1/2” or maybe 5/8” but can’t remember exactly. If you’re a dread player, you notice it first time you pick up the guitar.
