I love "hard line" tops like that. You should be pleasantly surprised.

I'd buy that top without hearing it!

So...question...aged toner top on this one or leave it alone? I am truly going to lean on the expertise of this forum for this decision. :-)

IMHO, it depends on the overall theme of the guitar. If you are going with vintage style appointments then yes, a toner would be appropriate but otherwise leave it alone to age naturally.

I greatly appreciate the input, Mr. Mcknight! I don't want to sacrifice anything, sonically speaking, just for a look. I still have some time, thankfully. :-)

I like the look of the top, it has personality. The back and sides look pretty good themselves.

Now that's the kind of red spruce I like .. lots of compression grain. Unless you are especially taken by the look of aged tops, I'd let it aged naturally.

OK...so a few things happened with this build. Last minute I decided to go with an SJ Cutaway Size/Shape. The really curly sides didn't really want to cooperate either so we incorporated it into some other parts of the instrument. This build should be done in a week or two so I will upload the finished product photos...but here are all the photos that got us between the initial post and current state of affairs! High hopes for this guitar. I think it going to be amazeballs.

I, too, like the "pine box" look. For me it creates more visual interest. That set of walnut is beautiful. Looking forward to watching this build. Enjoy the process!
