Looking wonderful under finish Howard. From where you started this is a "conversion" of sorts as well!

Default Almost there!

Hi all –

Howard is making progress and this guitar is looking awesome! All buffed out and we are getting very close.

Here are few shots that Howard provided:

Headstock:

Detail of neck joint:

A well buffed back:

A shot from the side / front

And finally…straight front shot of a Klepper OO!:

Beautiful work Howard (kudos)...

Do I spy a photo of Hank Garland or Johnny Smith up on your shop wall?

Hank and Johnny are elsewhere in the shop.

You are seeing a well-known photo of Django Renhardt, and bits of photos of Blind Blake and Gary Davis. The one of Blake might be identifiable to someone very familiar with it. Also not identifiable is a poster of a very young BB King, a sliver of which is seen through the doorway.

My shop walls are lined with my guitar and other musical heroes.

...and the windows of Howard's shop are lined by an extraordinary California landscape!

Of course (Django!).

I have this post card sized image up in my studio...(the Tele usually confuses people)

I have the one with the Tele in a small size. But the poster that shows in the above photo is this one. All you can see is a few inches on the right hand side of it. It's from his DJ days in Memphis:

BB appears in two other places in my shop as well.

Hey, notice that he's playing a bar chord on the Tele (probably a B--and he can make the barre with just two phalanges!). And here he is playing a G (open C form) on an ES-330. I guess he forgot how to do them later on.

Bridge on. Tuners on. Pickguard on. Needs a saddle.

OK, with the usual caveats about verbal descriptions of tone:

First not all rosewoods are created equal, and not all pieces of the same species of any wood are, either. I'd say that good Brazilian rosewood back and sides are like EQ that is boosted at both the top and bottom frequencies, while pernambuco is like EQ that is set flat. Of course, that is not a very exciting description. So, let's say that with pernambuco the EQ is all set for the same amount of boost--that captures it better. Pernambuco has a purity of tone--it has low damping, and tends to support all frequencies equally (in contrast, say, to maple, which is also very balanced, but more because it damps all frequencies equally).

BRW, other things being equal, will give a bit more glassiness/reverb in the treble, and a bit more boom in the bass (but not the bad kind of boom, which is imbalance and lack of focus in the bass. That comes from design and construction). I think that's why some people say rosewood guitars are "scooped" in the middle. They really aren't lacking anything in the middle--they are a bit boosted at both ends.

Hope this helps.
