I've seen those ears on Martin kits on ebay. Now I see it is because they were "handmade" on CNC.

What CNC machine is that? Looks interesting.

I don't know the brand or history of it. Here's a better picture of it in action:

Default More progress!

A few nice shots this evening - coming along nicely. Mike is expecting completion around the end of February or first week in March. I've a road trip planned to drive out and pick it up. My dad and brother both live within a few hours of SLO so the trip will accomplish some family time as well.

So, without further eloquence...

I love this sinker cedar!

Phil,

Thanks for this thread -- it's been very interesting. I'll be anxious to see the completed instrument. I bet it will look and sound fantastic.

Thanks Glenn. I know it's been a bit slow as the various components get setup. Mike wanted to have a more comprehensive step-by-step photo documentation for this guitar, which thrilled me. But fitting that in with the other several builds in process (I think he's working on 3 or 4 at a time, to manage the white space in the build process) has meant that the steps come in groups.

I think once the major assemblies start coming together and we're able to see the more-finished look this will really be exciting!

Thanks for watching it with me!

Phil

Thank you for the beautiful pictures. Many luthier's brace work brings to mind some sort of heroic battle between hands and wood, Mr. Baranik's is more like a court dance. I admire your patience - these pictures would have me climbing the walls in anticipation.

best,
Scott

Thanks Scott! I don't know if my impatience is assuaged by the pictures or enhanced! I really do enjoy seeing it come together, and all those little details that would otherwise be overshadowed if presented with a finished guitar.

Time for a sound port!

Default Assembled sides, ready to close the box

(actually these were taken before the port was cut of course!)

That is some fine looking Mahogany! I'm really anticipating how this will look with the finish on it. How does "The Tree" wood compare in tap tone with just regular Mahogany?
