Default Dark Florentine OM Project

A few years ago this set of Macassar ebony caught my eye. I found the asymmetrical features of the back panels especially appealling. I'm pairing th ebony with an especially stiff (for WRC) 'chocolate' cedar top that's been in my shop for about a decade. My goal is to achieve a fingerstyle instrument that is not only dark to the eye, but also to the ear--one with a full, rich voice that performs especially well with alternate tunings. We'll see:

Loren, the top goes onto the body tomorrow and more photos will be forthcoming--including the obligatory "a bazillion clamps" pic.

And Henderson: I bought 'chocolate' cedar from Brent out of Alaska Specialty Woods somewhere between 7 and 10 years ago. It's some of the stiffest WRC--of any color variation--that I've ever come across. However, it does retain one of the properties common of all the WRC's: you can dent it with a hard stare.

I've been sidetracked with an order--which is not a bad thing. Nice to get back to this project however. Here are a couple of progress photos.
First off, roughing in the back braces

My top bracing ready for a final pre-glue cleanup:

And here's the obligatory, "Man, I knew I should have bought another gross of clamps" pic:

Laminating up the top purfling:

The top purf & binding of cutaway:

Maybe it should be delivered with a Dark Milky Way chocolate bar in the case. Never hurts to fingerpick and eat chocolate at the sametime.

Looks like a real sweet build, looks like alot of guys will be following this build.

Hate to see this project side tacked by some real work but sometimes it happens.

Bruce,
