Agree on Romo. He is a cut above.
Ok you asked for it.
He’s a “pretty face” with a polished delivery who gets all the biggest gigs because of his Dad who actually was good.
My ratings:
Looks 9.5
Delivery 9.5
Substance 0

Sorry, I can’t help myself.

If I had to put a group as the all-time greats for me:

Vin Scully
Keith Jackson
Jim McKay
Chris Schenkel
Bill Fleming
Dick Enberg
Curt Gowdy
Mike Emrick
Bob Cole
Lindsey Nelson
Gus Johnson
Clark Kellogg
Jim Nantz

No one called a horse race better than Chic Anderson. Dave Johnson was right on the cusp. Chris Economaki was another I'll always admire. And yes indeed, good old Ned Jarrett - he was awesome for NASCAR!

Radio made a lot of good broadcasters. They had to be creative. They had to make us feel like we were there, in the seats. I'll always appreciate a good sportscaster!

Lots of favorites. My personal absolute favorites are

John Miller who I heard do SF Giants, then Baltimore Orioles, then Sf Giants again as well as Sunday night baseball,

Jack Ramsey and Hubie Brown doing NBA Basketball,

Johnny Most, Harry Carey, Phil Rizzuto, Ron Santo (pattern there?), Al Micheals, John Madden, Chris Collingsworth, Joe And Jack Buck, and Howard Cosell are big all time favorites too.

Dave Fleming and Doris Burke doing great work and may be heading to this list for me down the road.

Johnny Miller for golf. Sure he was arrogant, but he didn't pull any punches which really made him stand out from the crowd.

I actually like Dick Vitale and Bill Raferty for college hoops. They don't take themselves too seriously.
Yea, gotta like the RemDawg. Does he still have the hotdog stand outside Fenway?

I always liked Harold Reynolds for baseball. And when it comes to a play by play guy in basketball, Kaywood Ledford is the guy whose voice I’ll never forget.

I have a lot, but to list a few: Jim Nantz, Brent Musberger, Dick Enberg, Marv Alpert, Vin Scully, Jonny Most, Sean McDonough, and Keith Jackson.

I think my favorite might have been Dick Enberg. I really liked his voice and the way he spoke.

Sean McDonough is another under-rated "voice".

I will formally admit just how ancient I truly am by saying that I was weaned on Dizzy Dean and Peewee Reese calling baseball games in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Pretty much spoiled me for other sportscasters until Cosell came on the scene. Nowadays I make do with whoever is calling the game I want to watch, and that’s pretty much going to be an NBA game. As a Spurs fan, I tend to watch Fox Sports SW and they frequently have Sean Elliott doing color...not bad.

Also, if the Olympics are on, that dominates my television watching, no matter who’s announcing.

FWIW.

Foster Hewitt. Hockey Night in Canada in the 6 team league days. “He shoots! He shoots! He scores!”

I second George Kell and Ernie Harrell, especially as a duo. Not too hard to tell where I grew up

I used to like Gifford, Meredith and Cosell from Monday Night Football way back when.

I also really liked John Madden.

Now, more than half the time I'll turn down the sound.

Whoever is doing the Redzone is good though.
