Good advice. I got it just shy of 6 months ago and had to use it only once so far, when the power went out. I do start it once a month and let it run for about 20 minutes . Will do an oil change every year or sooner based on use. The battery for electric start is always a concern but there’s a pull start if needed.

It won’t run the whole house at once but it does a good job for basic survival needs.

My security system during such times is a Standard Manufacturing DP-12.

That’s all you can ask for. If it runs the fridge and the transformer for the low-voltage LEDs, I count that as a win.

Strings, water beads for humidifying guitars, distilled water to hydrate water beads, batteries for clip-on tuners, Allen wrenches to adjust truss rods as the postapocalyptic decades roll by, ten gross Fender medium teardrops, one garagefull Bell's Two Hearted Ale.

Food, water, water purifier, guns, ammo, first aid, silver ounces, cash, petrol, daily meds, antibiotics, spare eyeglasses, blankets, tarps, lights, blades, cooking fuel/stove, rope, axe, change of clothes and shoes in vehicles, 2 cars and 4x4 truck with never less than 50% gas. Motorcycle and bicycles.

And no matter where I sleep - on vacation, at home, wherever, my shoes are on the floor next to the bed/recliner with pants, shirt and jacket. Coat and flashlight at hand. Too often, seeing news about disasters like fires, floods, quakes and storms, I notice pictures of shoeless victims in jammies huddled under a blanket that some kind soul gave them.

Today I bought 500 feet of mason line. I have no use for it but it's there if I need it. I also bought 250 feet of polypropylene rope a couple of months which I have no immediate need for.
