We don't have kids so our will states that the instruments go to one of our brothers-in-law who plays guitar. I'm guessing he will pass on the guitars to our nephews who already love to hear their dad play and make up silly songs for them.

Good question. My kids are very young. If I were to pass away before my time, I guess they'd probably be sold to help fund the kids' education. If they develop an interest in guitar as they get older, I suppose they might stay in the family. It's something I guess I should consider in detail as they would be pretty valuable.

I had an uncle in the rotisserie business. What do you think he did with his equipment when he died? Let me just say, he's still turning over in his grave.

I’m going to arrange for an AGF karma giveaway for all of my guitar stuff.

I’ll need all the good karma I can get.

I learned, after my parents died, that my father had been collecting coins for a long time. Now I have a coin collection that I have no interest in, and that is difficult to sell. And then there was my parents’ furniture, art, china, jewelry, etc. Knowing that their Stuff may have been important to them makes it tough. On the other hand, they may have no longer had ANY emotional ties to it, and it was just sitting ‘round. I don’t know, and it shouldn’t matter. “Shouldn’t”

My kids don’t play any instruments, and I have been a musician for many decades - saxophones, flutes, guitars, percussion... The onus is on me to get to the finish line with the smallest possible burden to leave with my family.

Remember the ol’ bumper sticker “He who dies with the most toys wins”?

Well, that may make their families the losers.

I have modest guitars because I didn't want my wife worrying about what to do with them when I shuffle off. I've told her to call Guitars for Vets and let them have them all -- stands, capos, tools, supplies ...

Admirable!

Interesting question. My son dabbles in the guitar and my daughter thinks they're beautiful. They can each have one as a keepsake...else they will probably get sold. My wife is aware of this forum, Ebay, and Craigslist.

I've been considering this very topic recently. The number of my guitars exceeds my age by 50 years or so, and my children probably won't play that many guitars.
I wonder if an online auction might do the trick...

I have four guitars and four grandchildren ages 7 thru 16. Each will get one. Maybe they will be inspired to play someday. If not, maybe their children will.
