I got my 2018 J-45 in mid-October 2017. Gibson starts distributing its new models in the fall.

Thanks everyone. I am actually quite taken by how classic, musical and mature this guitar sounds right out of the box being brand new.

I corrected and update the text in my original post. This a brand new 2019 model from the new 2019 collection. I errantly wrote the "2018" arrived today. I bought it from Sweetwater where is was listed as a 2019 J-45 Cutaway. It IS a '2019' model even though I got it in 2018. Hope that clears the confusion.

I don't think there are any changes from the J-45 that could be found the past year or two but I'm not sure. Maybe the rolled fingerboard edges? Not sure if the brace scalloping or shaping is any different?

Thanks to BRENCAT for encouraging me to listen and judge this instrument on its own merit without 'pitting it' directly with the Martin DC-18e (Cutaway D-18) that I just got. This J-45 Cutaway stands on its own. It has a very iconic classic Gibson J-45 voice ..and its Brand new! ..I have to believe its going to mature, warm and open up to some degree. The exciting thing is; I made some iPhone video's right away and when I listen back, I here an instrument that could pass for any classic Gibson J-45. Have to say Gibson nailed it and knocked it out the park with this one.

I will take it to my guitar tech to examine the frets and neck. There may be a couple areas that need to be addressed. The action is a 'little high' as I go up the neck and there may be a rise around the 12th fret. So I'll see what my resident expert says. But this guitar is worth investing in a set up if needed. It looks and sounds like I want!

For those who dismiss Baggs Element Undersaddle PU's (Or Anthems) ...This has the Baggs Element VTC and I am not hearing anything missing. So an Anthem won't likely change anything if I swap and upgrade.

More to come. I am OVER The Moon with this one. The PERFECT Compliment to my small, but carefully selection of great Martin Dreads.

Lastly, I think the cutaway on the Slope shoulder J-45 looks super cool and like it belongs! Love the aged binding around the body too. Soooo cool!

Debut gig photo opp!

Acoustic-only recordings first.

Last night's maiden voyage with the 2019 J-45 Cutaway was a blast. I only got a recording on a song or two. The Reverbwas a bit 'Wet' when I started the song, but I couldn't change it midstream. So forgive the heavy modulation.

Default NGD: 2019 Gibson J-45 Cutaway !

Sounds great, Gary...as always. Funny, my J-45 is a fantastic instrument...but it doesn’t sound that good when I play it. Wonder what that’s about...

Love your demos!

Gotta ask. What exact effect(s) did you have going for this clip? What pedals if any? I personally like it a lot.

One more Demo in Drop D. Seems like the right vibe for the Gibson.

Thanks Dwight and everybody. Tucson is a great music town. I've been blessed to perform regularly and people are appreciative.

This J-45 Cutaway is my first J-45. The astonishing thing is I do not hear anything 'missing'. Some people think Cutaways have some degree of sonic compromise, but I am not hearing anything other than a classic Gibson J-45 voice. It is loud and projects wonderfully.

If I weren't such a traditionalist I would have bought one like yours.
Great sounding guitar!
