I played only Dreds for years (Larrivee D-03R and an old J45). A few years back a girlfriend of mine bought a smaller bodied Collings and I was in love (still maybe the best guitar I have ever played). Since then I have been buying all kinds of smaller body guitars (an OM, a parlor, another parlor, lol, and one or two others have been though my hands). Now I haven't played the dreds for probably a few years. I just love the smaller bodies better I guess and they are so much more comfortable. A week ago I got another small body. A custom made L-13 style. .....sounds darn fine to me.

There ya go! Dreads are OK (see Gibson Songwriter 12), but I'm a big fan of 17" lower bout jumbos, and Guild really does these right.

The single finest sounding guitar I have ever heard was a D-42.
I was at GC, and I remember almost not playing it, because I thought it was silly that they charged so much for an acoustic guitar, lol.
I strummed it once, and almost melted into the floor. The sound was glorious. Whoever got that particular guitar, got a fine sounding guitar indeed! If i'd had the money, I wouldn't have needed more than that first strum to convince me to purchase it.
So needless to say, I count myself as a fan of dreads.

I have recently fallen in love with dreads. Don't get me wrong, I still love small bodied guitars but, have a new appreciation for what the dread brings to the table.

I'm the opposite. While I prefer the playability of my 000, in terms of visual aesthetics the curvier waste seems a bit feeble.

One of the things I most like about my BBT is that it maintains the dreadnaught shape in a smaller body. (Taylor claims that it's a 15/16ths scale dreadnaught, with a body depth of 19.5" and a depth of 4".)

Guess there is a reason that guitars come in all sizes and shapes.

Give me a Dred any day.
I don't like the tone of smaller guitars.
Just not for me.

I do have one exception though.
Last year I bought a Washburn guitar that is just slightly smaller than a Dred.
The lower bout is the same size as a Dred but the shape is rounder.
I do like the sound of it although it doesn't have the deep rich bass that I love.
I got it to play plugged in and it works great for that.
