With all due respect to the diverse opinions here (about half of with which I agree), I am so sick and tired of the “thats not real country music” whining! Ever since the Carter family drove into town, and Jimmie Rogers played live radio, and Hank graced the Louisiana Hayride, every new act has been rejected by the country music legions. Chet was originally disinvited, but then went on to be the gatekeeper to the “Nashville sound”, which many argued wasnt very “country”. Like it, or hit skip. I happen to like the version of country that includes Willie, Don Williams, Merle (both of them) Hank Sr, and so on….up until about Strait and Jackson. But thats just my taste, not a genre-defining criteria.
I think Ray Charles summed it up best when asked what kind of music he like best….”Good music!”
